Kolmanscop, a “ghost town” in Africa
Built in the early 1900’s and deserted in the mid 1950’s, Kolmanscop was a German diamond mining town in the desert of Namibia. The town has since been reclaimed by the desert with many of the buildings having been partially filled by drifting sand through broken windows and collapsing roofs. Amazingly, much of the paint and wallpaper of the rooms remains intact due to the dry desert conditions. It has become a photographer’s mecca due to the unique characteristics of the crumbling abandoned buildings.
