Art in Nature, a kaleidoscope of color
Flamingos over a Kenyan soda lake… What is a soda lake?
It is an alkaline lake with high concentrations of salts, making soda lakes harsh eco-systems. Despite this, they are biologically diverse with a rich variety of microbial life. Salt precipitates and “algae blooms” create amazing colors and patterns on the lake’s surface; colors ranging from green and blue to orange and red. Crustaceans like brine shrimp also thrive here which in turn attracts bird life, most notably flamingos.
