Sharks & other marine critters

Few animals evoke as much raw emotion as SHARKS.

Sharks are predators, NOT man-eaters.

There are on average fewer than 10 fatalities annually from shark attacks worldwide.

In comparison… DOG attacks account for about 50 fatalities annually in the US alone.

“Sharks are beautiful animals, and if you’re lucky enough to see lots of them, that means that you’re in a HEALTHY ocean. You should be afraid if you are in the ocean and DON’T see sharks -Sylvia Earle, renowned marine biologist

On the flip side, HUMANS kill 100 MILLION sharks per year! The unregulated fishing practices worldwide have resulted in a 70% decline in shark populations globally in the past 50 years. This loss is unsustainable. Sharks are a critical part of the marine eco-system!

“Why is it that the most intellectual creature to have walked the Earth- humans capable of amazing advances- are also destroying our only home” -Jane Goodall

I have dived with sharks many times and each time, it has been exciting and memorable, but never scary.
